Sweden Crush Tunisia 5-1 To Make Flying Start At World Cup 2026

Date:

Sweden kicked off their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign in emphatic fashion with a dominant 5-1 victory over Tunisia in a Group F clash at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico on Sunday.

Midfielder Yasin Ayari starred for Sweden with a brace, opening the scoring in the seventh minute before adding his second deep into stoppage time in the 90+6th minute.

Alexander Isak doubled Sweden’s advantage in the 30th minute as the Scandinavian side took firm control of the contest.

Tunisia managed to pull a goal back shortly before half-time through Omar Rekik, whose 43rd-minute strike reduced the deficit and briefly gave his side hope heading into the break.

However, Sweden regained complete control in the second half. Viktor Gyokeres extended the lead in the 59th minute before substitute Mattias Svanberg made an immediate impact by finding the net in the 84th minute.

Tunisia struggled to contain Sweden’s relentless attacking pressure throughout the match, with midfielders Ellyes Skhiri and Rani Khedira unable to stem the flow of chances created by their opponents.

Khedira also received the only yellow card of the match in the 54th minute as Tunisia’s frustrations grew.

The encounter was officiated by Argentine referee Yael Falcon Perez, assisted by Maximiliano Del Yesso and Facundo Rodriguez.

The convincing win sees Sweden collect three valuable points in Group F, while Tunisia begin their World Cup campaign with a disappointing defeat.

Sweden’s attacking display will undoubtedly boost confidence as they look to build momentum in the tournament and strengthen their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages.
