Actress Sharifah Sakinah has revealed that she suffered a serious injury to her left ankle after falling at home while scrolling through her mobile phone three weeks ago.
The 37-year-old, whose full name is Sharifah Nurul Sakinah Syed Abu Bakar, said the accident occurred while she was browsing Threads before suddenly losing her footing.
“I was on my phone scrolling through Threads when I suddenly fell and twisted my ankle. I then heard a loud crack. Whether it’s a fracture or a torn ligament is between me and my doctor, but it happened from a simple fall,” she said.
Despite her doctor’s advice to rest, Sakinah said she has continued fulfilling her work commitments, including promotional tours for her latest film.
“My doctor told me to take it easy, but I can’t because I have a very busy work schedule. For now, I’m just trying to reduce my movements. I’ve never had an injury this serious before,” she said at the gala premiere of Tiket Sehala on Tuesday.
Although she arrived at the event in a wheelchair, Sakinah said she has decided against undergoing surgery and physiotherapy, choosing instead to allow the injury to heal naturally.
She described the incident as the most serious physical injury she has ever experienced.
“I’ve done action scenes before and never got injured, yet I ended up falling while using social media,” she said.
Sakinah expressed confidence that her ankle would recover on its own, adding that she understands what her body needs.
“I have to keep working for many more years, and most of the characters I play are physically demanding, so I want to make sure I recover properly,” she said.
The actress also reflected on how the accident changed her perspective on health and fitness.
“I used to wake up every morning to exercise. When this happened, I felt sad because I couldn’t move or walk properly. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe I wasn’t grateful enough, or perhaps I was too obsessed with staying fit.”
“Before this, I was overly focused on maintaining my body. Maybe God wants me to slow down and not become too attached to worldly things,” she added.
Sakinah will next appear in Tiket Sehala, directed by Rahila Ali, a survival thriller inspired by a true story about overseas job scam syndicates.
The film, which also stars Jaa Suzuran, Ainee Mustafa, Zaki Yamani and Noki K-Clique, is set to premiere in cinemas on Aug 6.
