The number of flood evacuees in the Kulim district has decreased slightly to 388 as conditions improved overnight.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, 118 families remain at three temporary relief centres (PPS) as of 8am today. This is a slight drop from yesterday’s figure of 399 residents from the same number of families who sought shelter after floods hit several neighbourhoods in the Sungai Seluang and Naga Lilit subdistricts.
At the Sungai Seluang PPS, the number of evacuees has reduced to 169 from 184, while 44 individuals remain at the Naga Lilit KEDA settlement PPS. The SK Permatang Tok Dik PPS is currently housing 175 people, up from 171 yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that Sungai Laka in the Kubang Pasu district has reached the danger level and continues to rise. Three other rivers — Sungai Sari in Padang Terap, Sungai Melaka in Langkawi, and Sungai Titi Kerbau in Pendang — have reached the warning level.
The Meteorological Department has maintained its heavy rain warning for Kulim and Bandar Baharu, with danger-level rainfall expected to persist until tomorrow. Continuous rain at the alert level is also forecast across the rest of Kedah during the same period.
