A Toyota Vellfire was found masquerading as a Perodua Kancil in Melaka yesterday after the state Road Transport Department (JPJ) discovered a mismatch between the vehicle and its registered number plate.
Melaka JPJ said the company-owned Vellfire was spotted around 4pm during routine checks on Jalan Tun Mutahir. Officers followed and stopped the vehicle for inspection.
Investigations revealed that the displayed registration number belonged to a Perodua Kancil. The 39-year-old driver admitted to using the plate after the Vellfire’s Motor Vehicle Licence expired in January 2025. Officers also discovered that the vehicle lacked valid insurance.
Several summonses were issued to both the driver and vehicle owner for displaying an incorrect registration number, driving without insurance, and operating an expired vehicle licence. The Vellfire was impounded for further action.
In a statement, Melaka JPJ warned that strict action will be taken against anyone who forges number plates or neglects to renew their vehicle licence and insurance, emphasizing the importance of road safety for all users.
