Three Kuching Men Fined RM600 Each After Cat Smell Dispute Turns Violent

Date:

A disagreement over the smell of a pet cat escalated into a physical altercation, leading to three men being fined RM600 each by the Magistrates’ Court.

Muhammed Firdaus Narani, 24, Ong Teck Eng, 56, and a 19-year-old youth pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to engaging in a public fight that disturbed the peace.

The incident occurred around 7pm on Nov 28 at Kampung Bintawa.

According to case facts, Muhammed Firdaus lodged a police report claiming he was attacked by two neighbours using iron rods, resulting in injuries to his head, lips and wrist. Ong also lodged a separate report regarding the altercation.

Police arrested all three men and seized two iron rods as evidence. Investigations confirmed that the trio had been involved in an affray, prompting charges under Section 160 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34. The offence carries up to six months’ jail, a RM1,000 fine, or both.

The fight is believed to have started after two of the men complained that the smell of Muhammed Firdaus’s pet cat was causing a nuisance.

Prosecuting Officer Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin conducted the prosecution. None of the accused were represented by lawyers.
