Severed Baby Remains Found in Freezer of Tokyo Entertainment Business; Police Launch Investigation

Date:

Tokyo police have launched an investigation after the severed head and limbs of an infant were discovered inside a freezer at an adult entertainment establishment in Sumida Ward, The Japan Times reported.

The remains were found on Saturday evening when an employee noticed what appeared to be a child’s head while cleaning a refrigerator. The employee alerted police at around 9pm.

Officers later located the decapitated head wrapped in a plastic bag inside the freezer, while the baby’s arms and legs were stored beneath it in a food container. Authorities believe the remains belong to an infant less than a year old. The torso has not yet been found, and the baby’s gender is still unknown.

Police are treating the case as suspected mutilation and abandonment of a corpse. The building, located near Kinshichō Station, has been cordoned off as investigations continue.

A 35-year-old restaurant worker told reporters he saw police tape around the premises, which he said is frequently used as a waiting area for sex workers. Another resident described the situation as unbelievable, noting that the neighbourhood has a reputation for being “rough.”

Investigators are now working to identify the infant and determine how the remains ended up at the business. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities have yet to receive any information indicating responsibility.
