US Air Force One Replacement Aircraft Revealed At Andrews Base

Date:

United States President Donald Trump has unveiled a Boeing 747-8 aircraft that will serve as the new Air Force One, giving the public its first look at the luxury jet reportedly worth around US$400 million, which was gifted by the Qatari government last year.

Trump was seen descending the aircraft steps inside a hangar at Joint Base Andrews, the military facility outside Washington that has long served as the official airbase for the US President.

He greeted Air Force personnel before addressing service members during the event.

“There is nothing like it. It is very unique and is considered the most luxurious aircraft in the world,” he said.

Trump added that a specially constructed hangar was required to accommodate the new aircraft, which is significantly larger than its predecessor.

He also announced that the jet would lead a major flyover in Washington on July 4, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The US Air Force said the aircraft will now undergo a “mission check flight”, an final evaluation phase before being officially deployed for presidential transport duties.

According to officials, the aircraft is equipped with advanced technology, enhanced security systems and meets all operational requirements for presidential use.

Priority has been given to operational readiness over interior redesign, meaning much of the cabin remains largely unchanged, although it still features premium fittings such as leather seating and polished wooden panels.

The new aircraft will replace the ageing Boeing 747-200, which has served US presidents for more than three decades.

Trump also previously flew back from Europe aboard the older aircraft, with White House staff marking its farewell on social media.

He dismissed criticism over accepting a foreign-gifted aircraft, rejecting concerns about conflicts of interest or security risks.

His administration has reportedly spent a year modifying the jumbo jet for presidential use.

“Why should our military and taxpayers pay hundreds of millions when we can receive it free from a country that wants to recognise our work?” he said in a previous statement.

Trump added that the aircraft will be used temporarily until new Boeing replacements are delivered to the Air Force in 2028.

The older aircraft will be reassigned to the executive transport fleet for senior government officials.

A Boeing 747-8 is estimated to cost around US$400 million, with additional modification costs running into hundreds of millions more.
