Woman Drowns After Car Plunges Into Sungai Muar

A woman in her 20s drowned after the vehicle she was driving plunged into the Sungai Muar at Tanjung Agas yesterday.

Muar Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer I Jahairi Shukor said they received a distress call at 3.48pm, prompting a team of 10 firefighters from the Muar and Tangkak stations to rush to the scene.

Upon arrival, rescuers found the woman trapped inside a Nissan Grand Livina that had sunk into the river.

“Firefighters managed to extricate the victim, but she was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene. Her body has been handed over to police for further action,” Jahairi said.

The operation ended at 4.40pm.
