The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has pledged comprehensive support for those injured after a Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme delivery van crashed into a school in North Jakarta on Thursday, ANTARA News reported.
According to initial findings, the minivan struck 17 pupils and one teacher before the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.
North Jakarta Police have since opened an investigation into the incident.
BGN Deputy Head Sony Sanjaya said the agency is mobilising all resources to ensure swift and effective treatment for the injured.
“We are working as quickly as possible with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the pupils and teacher receive optimal medical care. I personally visited the scene to ensure a rapid response,” he said after inspecting Kalibaru 01 Public Elementary School in Cilincing.
The incident occurred when an MBG delivery minivan crashed through the school gate and rammed into children who were seated in the schoolyard for a literacy activity.
Sanjaya said BGN will maintain close coordination with the school, police, and nearby medical facilities, adding that the agency will cover all medical expenses for the victims.
“All injured individuals will receive high-standard treatment at a regional general hospital,” he assured.
He further emphasised that the MBG programme will continue uninterrupted, with free meal distribution proceeding as scheduled.
Sanjaya added that BGN has initiated internal assessments to enhance safety, including a review of procedures, coordination, and monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar incidents.
“The BGN has launched internal evaluations to make sure such an incident does not happen again,” he said.
North Jakarta MBG Kitchen Head Sahrul Gunawan Siregar confirmed that the van was being driven by a substitute driver at the time of the crash.
