Psy’s Agency Raided as K-Pop Star Probed Over Alleged Illegal Drug Prescriptions

Date:

South Korean police have raided the office of P Nation, the entertainment company founded by K-pop star Psy, as part of an investigation into allegedly illegal psychotropic drug prescriptions.

According to Yonhap News, Psy — real name Park Jae-sang — is suspected of receiving prescriptions for controlled substances such as Xanax and Stilnox through remote consultations conducted by third parties. Under South Korea’s Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, drugs of this nature can only be prescribed after in-person medical examinations.

The raid was carried out on 4 December by officers from Seoul’s Seodaemun Police Station, who searched P Nation’s offices and company vehicles. Investigators also seized Psy’s mobile phone in an effort to secure evidence of alleged proxy prescription pickups involving his manager and other staff.

Authorities are reportedly considering summoning the singer-rapper for questioning.

The investigation first drew attention in August 2025, when police raided a university hospital following a tip-off. A doctor affiliated with the hospital is also under scrutiny for allegedly issuing remote prescriptions linked to the case.

The medications in question—commonly used to treat anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders—carry a known risk of dependency and are tightly regulated.

P Nation has denied any illegal activity, stating that Psy suffers from a chronic sleep disorder and had continued remote consultations after the pandemic due to his demanding schedule. The agency admitted there may have been lapses in how medication was collected on his behalf but insisted no unlawful prescriptions were issued. It pledged full cooperation with investigators.

The hospital involved declined to comment, and the doctor implicated has also reportedly denied wrongdoing.

Psy rose to global fame in 2012 with the viral hit Gangnam Style, which became a worldwide cultural phenomenon.
