Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an increase in maternity leave eligibility under Budget 2027, with the total entitlement raised from 360 to 490 days throughout an employee’s service.
Under the proposed changes, maternity leave will be capped at a maximum of 98 days for each childbirth.
The measure aims to provide greater flexibility and support for working mothers as they balance their careers with family responsibilities.
The announcement forms part of the government’s broader Budget 2027 initiatives concerning employee welfare and family support.
