A 30-year-old man was arrested on December 15 following a stabbing incident in Fukuoka that left a woman and an event staff member for Japanese female idol group HKT48 with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, identified as Naoya Yamaguchi, a resident of a nearby city, has been charged with attempted murder and has admitted responsibility, according to local police. Authorities have also recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The 44-year-old event staff member was stabbed after intervening in the elevator hall of the VIP parking area at Mizuho PayPay Dome Fukuoka. Police say the suspect, believed to be Yamaguchi, attacked the man during the altercation.
The second victim, a 27-year-old woman from Kurashiki in Okayama Prefecture, was visiting the stadium to attend a live performance by a male idol group. Both victims sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police continue to investigate the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
