A young girl was killed after the car driven by her grandfather skidded off the road and overturned along Jalan Baginda, Manjoi, here on Sunday.
The victim, four-year-old Az Dian Raisya Qistina Mohamad Hafisrudin, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Emergency Ward of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) at 10.05pm.
Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the incident occurred at about 8.40pm, when the child was travelling home from Meru to Manjoi with her 69-year-old grandfather.
Upon reaching the location, the Proton Iswara Aeroback driven by the elderly man reportedly lost control before skidding off the road and overturning.
“As a result of the accident, both victims sustained injuries to their faces and hands and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, the child was later confirmed dead at the emergency ward,” he said when contacted on Monday.
He added that the accident caused severe damage to the vehicle, with the left side dented and scratched, and the windscreen shattered.
Investigations are being carried out under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
