A woman was killed and her elderly mother critically injured after a man allegedly attacked them with a knife at their home in Kampung Baru Bakai yesterday evening.
Baling police chief Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe said the incident occurred at about 6.30pm, when officers responding to the case found both victims inside the house.
“The woman, in her 60s, was found dead with stab wounds to her back,” he said. “Her mother, believed to be in her 80s, sustained serious injuries after being slashed at the back of the neck.”
The deceased was taken to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star for a post-mortem, while the injured woman was rushed to Kulim Hospital for further treatment.
Brandon said a man has been arrested to assist with investigations and will be remanded at the Baling Magistrate’s Court.
“The suspect is currently in custody and investigations are ongoing,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 307 for attempted murder.
