Two participants in the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) 2026 were injured after they were allegedly hit by a motorcyclist suspected of being under the influence of alcohol in Jalan Munshi Abdullah early this morning.
The incident occurred at about 6.15am when the suspect, who was carrying a 19-year-old male passenger, allegedly rode through a section of the road that had been closed with traffic cones.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said police officers on duty ordered the motorcyclist to stop, but he allegedly fled against the flow of traffic before crashing into the two marathon participants.
“A 50-year-old female participant suffered a neck injury and is receiving treatment at Prince Court.
“Another male participant, aged 41, suffered injuries to his right knee and hand,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zamzuri said an initial alcohol screening of the motorcyclist returned a positive result, with an EBA reading of 164mg/100ml.
The rider and passenger were subsequently taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for blood and urine samples as part of the investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 186 of the Penal Code,” he said.
The motorcyclist has been remanded for three days until Oct 5, while the passenger was remanded for two days until Oct 4.
Both are being held at the Dang Wangi Police Station lock-up to assist with investigations.
Members of the public or witnesses with information about the incident are urged to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
