Johor Umno has called for a sedition investigation into political satirist Fahmi Reza over a social media post alleged to have insulted the state’s Regent, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
The party said members from 26 Umno divisions across Johor are expected to have lodged police reports by the end of today.
The move follows a post Fahmi shared on social media platform X on Monday, which sparked mixed reactions online, with some users criticising the artist while others came to his defence.
Johor Umno information chief Md Israk Abdullah described the post as provocative and insulting, saying the reports were intended to prompt authorities to open a formal investigation.
“We urge the police to carry out a comprehensive investigation and take appropriate action in accordance with existing laws,” he said.
Fahmi Reza rose to national prominence in 2016 after depicting former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as a clown, a work that drew widespread attention and controversy.
