Firefighter Injured While Battling Supermarket Blaze In Johor Jaya

Date:

A 23-year-old firefighter was injured this morning during a fire-fighting operation at a supermarket in Taman Johor Jaya after debris fell on him while the blaze was being brought under control.

Mohd Fadhil Md Ruday, the Fire and Rescue Department’s operation commander, said the firefighter from the Johor Jaya station sustained minor injuries to his right shoulder when fragments of cement plaster fell while he was extinguishing flames outside the building. He received initial treatment at the scene before being rushed to Sultan Ismail Hospital for further care.

The department received an emergency call at 7.21am reporting a fire at a supermarket along Jalan Seroja 56. Fire engines arrived within two minutes, and the blaze was brought under control by approximately 9.10am.

The fire affected a one-and-a-half-storey light industrial building used as a wholesale and supply centre, which comprises four shop lots. About 70 per cent of the building was damaged, and three adjoining units were also affected.

A total of 30 personnel from several fire stations, including Johor Jaya, Larkin, Tebrau, Mount Austin, and Ulu Tiram, were deployed, supported by three fire engines, an EMRS unit, a tanker, and other support vehicles.

Investigations into the cause of the fire and the full extent of losses are ongoing.
