Hannah Yeoh Pledges Transparency, Flood Solutions As She Takes Over Federal Territories Portfolio

Date:

Newly appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh has pledged to prioritise transparent governance and policies that reflect the real-life challenges faced by residents of the Federal Territories, including efforts to reduce flood incidents.

Hannah, who was shifted from the Ministry of Youth and Sports following yesterday’s Cabinet reshuffle, said her focus would also include improving essential public services, promoting sustainable development, and safeguarding recreational areas.

“The trust placed in me is a great responsibility that I will carry with full commitment, integrity and determination,” she said in a statement on Tuesday night.

She added that her goal is to strengthen governance in the Federal Territories in line with the MADANI government’s aspirations and the public’s demand for efficient, inclusive and effective public services.

As the Member of Parliament for Segambut, based in Kuala Lumpur, Hannah said she understands first-hand the challenges, needs and aspirations of residents in the Federal Territories. She stressed her commitment to engaging stakeholders through comprehensive consultations, particularly Members of Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, who represent the voices of the people in policymaking processes.

Hannah also reflected on her experience working alongside former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, saying it shaped her understanding of trust, people-centric leadership and public service discipline — values she continues to uphold under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Recalling her tenure at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Hannah highlighted key initiatives focused on athlete welfare and protection, including the introduction of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions for podium athletes, the Road to Gold (RTG) programme, strengthened grassroots sports development and the provision of free sports facilities for communities.

She said additional priorities included the implementation of the Safe Sports Code, tax relief incentives of up to RM1,000 to encourage active participation in sports and healthy lifestyles, expanded sports funding, a doubling of gazetted sports categories, and inclusive initiatives such as the introduction of the Masters Games.

Hannah also emphasised youth policy reforms, particularly amendments to the Youth Societies and Youth Development Act, which will lower the youth age limit to below 30 years effective January 1, 2026, aimed at strengthening young leadership and ensuring a structured and inclusive generational transition.

She added that the popular Rakan Muda programme was revitalised, alongside various social intervention initiatives targeting at-risk youth.
