A father in New Taipei City has been sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison after being found guilty of repeatedly sexually assaulting his daughter over a two-year period while she was a middle school student. The New Taipei District Court concluded the case, ruling that the father committed two counts of forced sexual intercourse and two counts of sexual molestation, and noting that he failed in his duty to protect his child, causing severe harm to her physical and mental development.
According to court documents, the abuse began in 2023, when the girl was in the first year of middle school. The father ignored her verbal refusals and assaulted her on two occasions, taking advantage of times when she was bathing or alone in her room. The assaults continued the following year, with the father again targeting his daughter at home.
The final incident occurred late last year, when the father assaulted the girl in the bathroom. His wife unexpectedly witnessed suspicious behavior, prompting a confrontation that led her to report the abuse to the police. During interviews facilitated by social workers, the girl disclosed that the assaults had been ongoing since her first year of middle school.
During the trial, the judge highlighted that the father, as her primary guardian, should have been the person she could trust most, yet he violated her autonomy to satisfy his own desires. The court also noted that such trauma during formative years could have long-lasting effects on the girl’s future relationships and social life. The father has shown no remorse or attempts at restitution.
The court handed down prison terms ranging from one year to seven years and six months for each of the four offenses, to be served consecutively, resulting in a total sentence of 9 years and 6 months. The case is still subject to appeal.
