The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has urged the public, including social media users and commentators, not to speculate about the Durian Tunggal shooting in Melaka that left three men dead. In a statement today, the AGC warned that spreading unverified information could compromise the investigation and weaken public confidence in the justice system.
“The investigation is still ongoing under a special team from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) at Bukit Aman. The integrity of the investigation must be preserved,” the statement said, adding that anyone with information, recordings, or evidence should cooperate fully with authorities to ensure a thorough and factual inquiry.
The AGC emphasized that prosecution decisions will be based solely on the law and admissible evidence, free from external pressure or public influence, and reminded the public to respect the judicial process.
On Dec 16, the AGC reclassified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code following a briefing from PDRM. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that the investigation will be conducted transparently, while Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed the probe will uphold legal and ethical standards.
The incident occurred on Nov 24 at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal around 4:30 am, when three men aged 24 to 29 were shot. Authorities alleged one victim had swung a machete at a police corporal, causing serious injury, though the victims’ families have denied these claims. A special team was subsequently formed on Dec 4 to investigate the allegations raised by the families.
