The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department has warned parents and guardians against allowing children to play in flooded areas, citing serious safety risks.
During inspections, firefighters found some children still playing in floodwaters near the Pahang River, including a child under two years old without adult supervision.
Peramu Fire and Rescue Department chief Wan Samsul Effendi Wan Mahmud stressed that parental negligence in such situations could lead to tragic outcomes.
“Parents need to be more responsible in monitoring their children’s safety, as floodwaters have not fully receded, particularly in villages near the Pahang River,” he said.
Villages still affected include Kampung Pulau Manis, Kampung Tanjung Pulai, Kampung Tebat, and Kampung Ganchong.
Wan Samsul Effendi also warned that floodwaters can hide other dangers such as sharp debris, floating wood, nails, glass, and venomous animals including snakes.
“Allowing children to play in these conditions exposes them to multiple hazards,” he said, urging strict supervision to prevent accidents.
