A man was killed while two others were injured after they were attacked by a group of masked men armed with sharp weapons at a restaurant in Sungai Bakap on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at about 4.30pm. The 59-year-old victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital. The two other victims are currently receiving medical treatment.
Initial reports indicate that approximately 15 individuals wearing face masks launched the attack while the three men were dining at the restaurant.
Police are continuing investigations into the case, including efforts to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack.
Several videos circulating on social media earlier showed the victims lying injured at the scene, including one who appeared to be in critical condition, believed to be a result of the assault.
Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed the incident when contacted.
“Yes, the incident occurred at 4.30pm and we are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said, adding that efforts are underway to identify those involved and establish the motive.
