Penang police have detained two men to assist in investigations into a deadly attack at a restaurant in Sungai Bakap yesterday afternoon.
The assault, carried out by a group of masked men armed with sharp objects, left one man dead and two others seriously injured. The 59-year-old victim reportedly died en route to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries, while the two other victims are receiving treatment.
Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed that the suspects were apprehended several hours after the incident. Investigations are ongoing to track down additional individuals believed to be involved and to determine the motive behind the attack.
“The two men were detained to assist in the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. They will be remanded later today,” he said.
Azizee urged anyone with information to come forward and report to the nearest police station to aid the investigation.
Earlier reports indicated that around 15 masked men carried out the attack while the victims were dining at the restaurant. Several videos of the aftermath circulated on social media, showing the victims, including one in critical condition.
