Date:

Two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) have been opened to accommodate 197 flood victims as of 10 am today, following heavy overnight rainfall that caused flooding in parts of Kuching, Sarawak.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed that the affected centres are the Stapok Community Hall and Dewan R-Piang in Kampung Sinar Budi Baru.

“At the Kampung Sinar Budi Baru Multipurpose Hall PPS, 155 victims from 45 families have been registered, while the Stapok Community Hall PPS has 42 victims, with the number of families still being identified,” the department said.

Earlier, JBPM received reports of flooding in Taman Desa Wira and Kampung Sinar Budi Baru at 5 am.

The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rain warning for several areas in Sarawak from today until tomorrow, including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, and Betong.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant.
