Durian Orchard Meth Lab Bust: 1.2 Tons of Drugs Seized, 3 Men Charged

Three men, believed to be Chinese nationals, were charged today with trafficking 26,025 grams of methamphetamine in connection with a drug lab set up in a durian orchard. The trio were denied bail.

The accused are identified as Xie Zhouji (38), Zhang Mei (32), and Chen Cheng (36). They were brought to the George Town Magistrate’s Court this morning.

The three are charged with trafficking the drugs on December 20 at around 10pm in a commercial building along Fengche Road, in violation of Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read together with Section 39B(2) and Section 34 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, they face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.

After the charges were read in Chinese by a court interpreter, the accused confirmed that they understood. None of the three were granted bail or had legal representation.

Magistrate Nadra Duthna adjourned the case to February 25, 2026, for the submission of a chemical analysis report. The prosecution is led by Daniel.

Earlier, police arrested the men at a unit in a commercial building on Fengche Road and seized approximately 26kg of methamphetamine. Subsequent investigations led authorities to another unit on Fengche Road, where 474kg of meth were recovered. Finally, a meth lab was raided in a durian orchard along Telok Bahang Lane, yielding 688kg of meth.

In total, the three operations resulted in the seizure of around 1.2 metric tons of methamphetamine, with an estimated value of RM38 million.
