Malaysia needs a more responsible and mature political culture that prioritises solving real issues over sowing division for personal or political gain, Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Anthony Loke said.
In his 2026 New Year message, Loke warned against a return to old political practices that undermine public trust and stall national progress. He stressed that politics should improve people’s lives rather than fuel hostility and discord.
Loke noted that many Malaysians continue to face rising living costs, while businesses are struggling with higher operating expenses, challenges that remain a key focus of the federal government.
He said the government would continue to address these pressures through practical policies and effective implementation.
“As members of the federal administration, our responsibility is clear — to serve with integrity, make decisions in the public interest and ensure that economic growth translates into better lives for the people and a sustainable business environment,” he said.
The Transport Minister added that public office is a trust that must be upheld daily.
Reaffirming DAP’s commitment to democracy, justice and inclusivity, Loke said the party would continue working to ensure every Malaysian has the opportunity to succeed and that development benefits are shared equitably.
He acknowledged that differing views are part of a healthy democracy but said such differences must not obstruct cooperation for national progress and public welfare.
“Progress is not built on political rhetoric. It must be grounded in integrity, accountability and tangible outcomes felt by the people,” he said.
Calling on Malaysians to renew their resolve, Loke said 2026 should be a year of bolder reforms and sustained efforts to advance justice, freedom and progress, expressing hope that the new year would usher in renewed confidence and optimism for the country.
