Motorcyclist Killed After Car Driven by Cannabis-Positive Man Veers Into Opposite Lane

Date:

A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a car driven by a man who later tested positive for cannabis crashed into him along Km23 Jalan Seremban–Kuala Pilah late last night.

Kuala Pilah district police chief Superintendent Muhamad Mustafah Hussin said the accident occurred at about 11.10pm. The victim, a restaurant assistant riding a Honda motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations found that a Perodua Viva driven by a 23-year-old man, who was travelling from Seremban towards Felda Keratong, lost control of the vehicle and veered into the opposite lane.

“The motorcyclist, who was heading home to Senawang, did not have sufficient time to evade the car before the collision,” he said in a statement today.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries. A subsequent urine test found him positive for cannabis, and he has been detained to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence resulting in death, as well as provisions under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
