Commuters in New Taipei City were stunned on the evening of January 2 when a 40-year-old woman jumped naked from a moving vehicle, briefly halting evening rush-hour traffic.
The incident occurred around 6pm along Section 1 of Wenhua Road in Banqiao District, near Xinpu MRT Station, according to UDN. Bystanders quickly alerted traffic police, who were already nearby for road control duties.
Officers rushed to the scene and retrieved clothing from the car to cover the woman, shielding her from the chilly 10°C evening temperatures, CTWant reported. Traffic was briefly disrupted as authorities secured the area and ensured her safety.
Preliminary investigations revealed the woman had been involved in a heated argument with her 38-year-old partner while he was driving her home. The dispute reportedly involved disagreements over the illness of her child from a previous marriage, financial management, and a perceived lack of emotional support.
Medical personnel at the scene assessed the woman as emotionally unstable. She was involuntarily committed to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, where her condition has since stabilised.
Her partner, who remained calm throughout the incident, tested negative for alcohol and drugs. The woman has indicated she does not intend to press charges. However, authorities filed a report under Taiwan’s Domestic Violence Prevention Act to alert the municipal government for follow-up social work intervention.
