His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has emphasised that the army must uphold the highest standards of integrity and trust in carrying out its duties.
The King issued the advice to Army Chief General Datuk Azhan Md Othman during an audience at Istana Bukit Tunku today.
Sultan Ibrahim, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, stressed that leadership rooted in integrity must start at the top. He urged the army chief to lead by example in fostering clean, transparent, and accountable governance.
The King also expressed his hope that the army would continue to be respected and trusted by the public as a professional force free from corruption, in fulfilling its role to defend the nation’s sovereignty and security.
“I have repeatedly highlighted the issue of ‘middlemen’ or agents at the Defence Ministry… they should not be allowed to enter at all,” His Majesty said in a Facebook post.
General Azhan officially assumed office as the 31st Army Chief on Jan 1. His appointment followed the decision of the 631st Armed Forces Council meeting on Nov 19 and received Sultan Ibrahim’s consent on Dec 1 last year.
