Woman Filed Fake Robbery Report to Hide RM10,000 Casino Losses from Boyfriend

Date:

A foreign woman has admitted to lodging a false police report after claiming she was robbed of RM10,000 at a hotel in Genting Highlands, only for investigations to reveal that she had lost the money while gambling.

Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the woman filed the report at the Bentong District Police Headquarters at around 10.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 7).

In her report, she alleged that two foreign women had robbed her of RM10,000 in cash in front of a hotel elevator in Genting Highlands at about 5.30pm the same day.

However, police investigations, including a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the alleged location, found no evidence that the robbery had taken place.

Further inquiries revealed that the woman had lost the money at a casino earlier that day.

Superintendent Zaiham said the woman later admitted to fabricating the robbery story, explaining that she was afraid of her boyfriend’s reaction if he discovered she had gambled away the money.

Police also found that the woman was unable to produce valid identification or travel documents during the investigation.

As a result, a police report has been lodged against her and she is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving false information to a public servant, as well as Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for failing to possess valid travel documents.

If convicted of making a false police report, she faces up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. For the immigration offence, she could be fined up to RM10,000, jailed for up to five years, or both.
