26 Sarawak Schools Remain Closed Today Due To Flooding

Date:

Sarawak Education Director Omar Mahli confirmed that 26 schools in the state are unable to commence classes as scheduled due to lingering flood impacts.

According to the latest survey, three affected schools are in Daro and Mukah (Selangau), four in Sibu, and 19 in Tatau and Sebauh, Bintulu.

“The schools involved include SK KG Pangtray, SK OK Selair, and SJK (C) Chung Hua in Daro; and SK Nangga Selangau, SK Kuala Lemai, SK Ulu Sg Arip, and SK St Mark in Selangau.

“In Tatau and Sebauh, 19 schools are affected, including SJK (C) Chung Hua Tatau, SJK(C) Chung San, SK Bukit Mawang, SK Hermanus Assan, SK Kuala Binyo, SK Kuala Kebulu, SK Kuala Muput, SK Kuala Sigu, SK Labang, SK Ng Penyarai, SK Ng Tau, SK Pandan, SK Rh Tayai, SK Sebauh, SK Sg Bukit Balai, SK Sg Genaan, SK Sg Sebungan, SK Sg Sengian, and SK Sg Bagian,” he said.

Omar explained that the schools remain closed due to waterlogged school compounds and inaccessible roads in nearby residential and village areas.

Meanwhile, eight schools in Sarawak have been converted into temporary evacuation centres (PPS) — seven in Serian and one in Selangau — to assist flood-affected residents.
