“Be Ready to Lose Everything,” Defence Minister Warns Corrupt Officers

Date:

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has warned that anyone who compromises Malaysia’s security sector through corruption or misconduct must be prepared to face severe consequences, including losing everything they have.

In his New Year’s address, Khaled said the Defence Ministry and the Malaysian Armed Forces will undergo sweeping reforms to restore public trust following a year marked by controversy and criticism.

He acknowledged that the ministry had come under sustained scrutiny throughout 2025 and into the start of this year, with allegations ranging from corruption and abuse to questions over the integrity of intelligence operations.

“These issues have placed the credibility of our nation’s principal defence institution under serious strain,” he said.

Khaled cited cases involving bullying, mistreatment, unethical conduct and alleged corruption, saying such incidents had damaged public confidence and could no longer be ignored.

While stressing that the wrongdoing involved only a small number of individuals, he said their actions had unfairly tarnished the reputation of the many officers and personnel who continue to serve the country with integrity.

“The actions of a few have caused widespread damage to the ministry’s standing,” he said, adding that reforms were necessary to ensure accountability and restore faith in the armed forces.

Khaled pledged that the ministry would take firm action to uphold professionalism and ensure that Malaysia’s defence institutions remain trustworthy and respected.
