Ex-Police Chief Must Compensate Hannah Yeoh RM250K Over Defamatory Remarks

Date:

The Court of Appeal has ordered former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan to pay RM250,000 in damages to Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh for defamation.

The ruling comes after Musa made defamatory remarks about Yeoh during a university forum six years ago.

A three-member bench, led by Judge Datuk Azimah Omar—now a Federal Court judge—unanimously overturned a decision by a Kuala Lumpur High Court judicial commissioner, who had dismissed Yeoh’s defamation suit last year.

The court’s decision holds Musa personally liable for the remarks, awarding Yeoh compensation for the harm caused to her reputation.
