86-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Killed in KL Hit-and-Run, Driver Allegedly Escapes

Date:

An elderly woman died in a brutal hit-and-run after she was knocked down and run over by a car while crossing the road in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur last Sunday morning.

The victim, Lim Mui Choo, was on her way to the market near UTC Sentul between 8am and 9am when the tragedy happened.

According to a Facebook post by her grandson, Lim was standing at a junction preparing to cross when a red Honda suddenly hit her from behind, knocking her to the ground. Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly continued driving forward and ran over her body.

Lim suffered multiple shattered bones and began vomiting large amounts of blood.

The grandson claimed the driver initially tried to flee the scene but was blocked by another car. The driver then got out, briefly looked at Lim, and drove off without calling for an ambulance or reporting to police.

Lim later died after failing to receive medical treatment in time.

Her daughter, Zhang Xiufang, told Sin Chew Daily that Lim was a cancer survivor who had recovered fully 10 years ago and was heading to buy groceries for Chinese New Year preparations.

Police later told the family the driver allegedly did not stop because he was rushing to send his child to school — an explanation the family strongly rejected.

“How can sending a child to school be more important than saving a life?” Zhang said.

The family added that Lim’s sudden death has destroyed their plans to reunite for Chinese New Year, turning what should have been a joyful season into tragedy.
