A total of 53 foreign nationals were arrested for suspected immigration offences during a series of enforcement raids carried out by the Sarawak Immigration Department (JIM) around Kuching.
In a statement, JIM Sarawak said the operation was conducted from early Tuesday morning until early Wednesday, involving 29 immigration officers who targeted high-risk locations across the city.
Among the sites inspected were houses in plantation areas around Kampung Trombol, several factories in the Demak industrial zone, and workers’ quarters at a construction site along Jalan Arang.
All those detained have been taken in for further investigation, and authorities said appropriate action will be taken under existing immigration laws.
JIM Sarawak added that it will continue to carry out regular enforcement operations to ensure compliance and to safeguard national security.
