The Sarawak Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) says the police have referred the case involving the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and the alleged RM1 million received from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further investigation.
Sarawak Dapsy political education director Soo Tien Ren said this contradicts SUPP’s claim that there is “nothing to investigate” regarding the funding.
“Filing a police report is a basic right in a democratic society. SUPP’s attempt to politicise and attack a lawful report only shows their desperation to avoid scrutiny,” he said. “A party with a clear conscience has nothing to fear from an investigation. Only those with something to hide do.”
Soo urged SUPP to clarify its financial ties with Najib, including why it accepted the fund, its source, purpose, and whether it was obtained and used legally. He added that SUPP has yet to provide satisfactory explanations, often dismissing the issue by saying, “this happened in the past.”
He emphasised that Sarawak Dapsy will not back down under political pressure or accept any party placing itself above the law.
“Investigation is not persecution. Scrutiny is not guilt. But fear of investigation speaks volumes. If SUPP is truly clean, it should prove it with facts and investigation results, not denial and deflection,” he said.
The police report by SUPP Central Working Committee member and political secretary to the Premier, Kua Jack Seng, followed an earlier report lodged by Sarawak Dapsy secretary George Lam calling for an immediate investigation into SUPP’s alleged receipt of RM1 million from Najib.
