Mother Admits Letting Kids Miss School for Travel, Sparks Online Debate

Date:

Some parents appear to be taking a relaxed approach to their children’s school attendance, sparking debate online. On the social media platform Thread, a woman openly criticized this trend, calling it a habit that needs to be corrected.

“I wonder, why do some parents today not take their children’s schooling and learning seriously? For example, skipping school to go on holidays or return to their hometowns—there are so many reasons given to miss school. Why? Has schooling become unimportant in today’s world, and why has this behavior become normal?” she wrote.

Scrolling through the comments, many parents shared their opinions on the issue. One mother admitted that she, too, occasionally allowed her children to miss school for family trips.

“I am a parent who gives my children time off to travel because I believe they can learn many things outside the classroom,” she said. “I allow my children to miss school, but I make sure all their schoolwork is up to date. Alhamdulillah, every year my children still receive academic awards.”

She also urged others not to judge her parenting style, noting that her children attend private school.

The post drew a mix of responses from netizens. Some questioned why parents choose to travel during school term instead of school holidays.

“Why travel during the school calendar? You’re teaching your child to skip school. Going to school is not just about academics; it’s about discipline,” one commenter wrote.

The discussion highlights the ongoing debate about balancing education, discipline, and experiential learning outside the classroom.
