‘She’s My Only Child’: Distraught Father Appeals for Daughter’s Return After She Leaves Home Suddenly

Date:

A father is desperately appealing for public help after his teenage daughter left their home without notice and has been missing for more than 24 hours.

When contacted by China Press, the man, identified as Liu Youyan (transliteration), broke down in tears as he recounted the events leading up to his daughter’s disappearance.

Liu said he returned to their home in Ara Damansara at around 6.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 20), only to discover that his daughter, Liu Zixin, was nowhere to be found.

Upon checking her room, he realised that her clothes, MyKad, birth certificate and passport were also missing.

“I checked the CCTV footage and saw that she left the house at around 6.07pm in what appeared to be an e-hailing car,” he said.

Liu added that he and his daughter previously shared a mobile application that allowed them to track each other’s real-time location. However, after leaving home, she uninstalled the app, making it impossible for him to locate or contact her.

He said members of the public later sent him screenshots of his daughter’s Instagram Stories, but he was unable to message her as her account has restrictions in place.

According to Liu, he and his daughter once shared a close relationship, but things began to change after she started dating an 18-year-old boy.

“After knowing him, her personality changed noticeably, and she harmed herself several times, which made me extremely worried,” he said.

Liu revealed that he had recently discovered she was engaging in self-harm again and immediately sent her to the hospital for treatment. He also asked the boyfriend and his mother to meet him, during which both the boy and his daughter promised not to see each other again.

While his daughter was hospitalised, Liu kept her mobile phone for safekeeping but said he never expected her to retrieve it and run away from home.

Describing his anguish, Liu said he had been very protective of his daughter as she is his only child, adding that he only began allowing her more freedom after she entered Form Four.

“My heart really hurts. I only hope that she can come home as soon as possible and be safe,” he said.

Liu has urged anyone with information on his daughter’s whereabouts to contact him at 012-892 1488.
