Days after Brooklyn Peltz Beckham revealed a deep rift with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, in a fiery Instagram post, the DJ who performed at his wedding has shared his account of the dance that contributed to the feud.
According to British celebrity DJ Fat Tony (real name Tony Marnach), singer Marc Anthony unexpectedly called Brooklyn’s mother, Victoria, to the stage during the couple’s April 2022 wedding, leaving Brooklyn’s new wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, “crying her eyes out.” Fat Tony told the British TV show This Morning on Friday that everyone expected the bride to be called for the newlyweds’ first dance.
“But rather than calling on Nicola, Marc Anthony invited Victoria to the stage,” Marnach explained. “Brooklyn went on, thinking he would do the first dance with his wife, and the next minute everyone is expecting Nicola to go up. It was a very awkward situation.”
Contrary to social media memes, Marnach clarified that the dance did not involve “slutdropping, PVC catsuits, or Spice Girl-style moves.” Instead, he said the problem was the timing, which made the moment feel inappropriate.
“Victoria goes on stage, Brooklyn is literally devastated, and Nicola leaves crying. They do the dance, Marc Anthony says, ‘put your hands on your mother’s hips,’ and the whole situation was really uncomfortable for everyone in the room,” Marnach said.
Brooklyn described the incident in his Instagram post as his mother dancing “very inappropriately on me in front of everyone,” leaving him “humiliated.” He also accused his parents of trying to “ruin” his marriage to Nicola, planting media stories, and prioritizing “Brand Beckham” over family.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family,” Brooklyn wrote, confirming long-standing rumors of a rift. “I’m not being controlled; I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
David and Victoria Beckham have not publicly responded to Brooklyn’s allegations. CNN has reached out to representatives for both families.
Marnach, who has performed at multiple Beckham events, described them as a “close-knit family” who love to dance. He said, “If Brooklyn felt it was inappropriate and awkward, it was inappropriate and awkward.” He added that the next day’s brunch was equally tense, as guests discussed the previous night’s events, leaving the couple visibly distressed.
