Investigation Into Rafizi’s Son Attack Ongoing, Info Cannot Be Released — Saifuddin

Date:

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has informed Rafizi Ramli (PH–Pandan) that he cannot publicly confirm certain information shared with him last month regarding the investigation into the mastermind behind the attack on Rafizi’s son.

In a written parliamentary reply yesterday, Saifuddin said releasing such information could impede authorities’ efforts to track down the suspects and compromise the safety of key witnesses.

“Therefore, your request cannot be granted,” he said. “The ministry assures that justice will be upheld without compromise. Any further developments that can be disclosed to the public without affecting the investigation will be announced through official statements by the ministry or police in due course.”

Rafizi had asked whether Saifuddin could publicly confirm details personally conveyed to him on December 1 concerning the authorities’ findings in the investigation.

The incident occurred on August 13 at a shopping mall in Putrajaya, where Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was attacked at around 2pm. CCTV footage showed two men following Rafizi’s wife’s car on a motorcycle prior to the incident. The boy was dragged and stabbed with a syringe but was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment and a check-up. The assailants escaped.

The former PKR deputy president said the attack appeared to be planned and that his wife was likely being observed for several days beforehand. He also suggested the attack may be linked to a case he was investigating following a meeting with a group of whistleblowers a week earlier.

According to Rafizi, his wife had received a threatening text message reading: “Be quiet. If you continue, AIDS.”

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail previously stated in October that the police had yet to receive the chemistry report on the liquid contained in the syringe used in the attack.
