Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has announced plans to “auction” a single slipper to settle an outstanding judgment debt of RM66,061.85 owed to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
The claim came after court bailiffs carried out a seizure at his Ampang Jaya residence yesterday, following his failure to pay the remaining damages and legal costs stemming from a 2017 defamation lawsuit.
In a video that has since gone viral, Jamal appeared to mock the court-ordered seizure, saying he would raise the required sum by auctioning one side of his slipper.
“Insya-Allah, regarding the RM66,000 claim by Teresa Kok… she wants to seize my household items, but I don’t think it will be that easy. I will auction off one side of my slipper to pay her,” he said.
The legal dispute dates back to April 6, 2017, when Kok sued Jamal over defamatory remarks related to the management of Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (YAWAS) funds.
The High Court later ruled in Kok’s favour, awarding her RM300,000 in damages and RM50,000 in costs. Jamal’s bid to challenge the ruling ended on July 30, 2024, when the Federal Court dismissed his application for leave to appeal.
The seizure was executed at 11.42am by a senior assistant registrar, court bailiffs and lawyers from S.N. Nair & Partners, with police present to maintain order.
Despite his public remarks, Jamal is expected to lodge a police report at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters today, alleging irregularities in the seizure process.
