Suspended Inspector Sheila Arrested For Disturbance During Thaipusam At Batu Caves

Date:

A suspended police officer, identified as Inspector Sheila, was arrested for allegedly causing a disturbance during the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves yesterday.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar was detained under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duties and was remanded for one day.

“The arrest followed an altercation between the woman and traders near the temple,” Khalid told reporters during a community policing programme at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy temple in Batu Caves.

He added that the suspect was also charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for actions intended to insult the modesty of an individual.

“The case remains under further investigation,” Khalid said.

The arrest came after a video of the incident went viral online, showing Inspector Sheila, dressed in a black shirt and shorts, being handcuffed by two female police officers as she allegedly caused a commotion at the temple.
