Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh has responded to objections over her directive for a feasibility study on holding an election for the Kuala Lumpur mayor.
In a statement on Monday, Yeoh said higher education teaches individuals to examine and understand issues through thorough research, not merely to pass examinations. She stressed that sound and convincing decisions must be based on accurate data and facts.
“If we want the right decisions, we need the right data. That is why I value the learning process during my Bachelor of Laws degree, where I learned to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a policy,” she said.
Yeoh explained that weighing the pros and cons allows decisions to be made more carefully, saves time and effort, and helps avoid unnecessary work and mistakes. She added that research is an essential process that leads to wiser decision-making.
“Never be afraid of studies or research. Wisdom is a crucial quality for a responsible leader in guiding the people,” she said, adding that the message was shared as a reflection in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day public holiday.
