Teen Saves Months of Coins to Buy Laptop for Studying, Shop Returns Savings as Gift

Date:

A teenage boy’s heartwarming effort to buy a laptop using months of saved coins has touched the hearts of many.

The student, believed to still be in school, went to a shop in Tawau, Sabah with his mother and younger brother, estimated to be around five years old, to purchase a laptop. The story was later shared on the shop’s TikTok account.

“When he came in, we saw him carrying something—it turned out to be a piggy bank filled with coins. After choosing the laptop, he asked us, ‘Can I pay with coins?’ My heart melted, and I replied, ‘Yes, of course,’” the post said.

While the boy counted his coins at the counter, a store manager asked about his savings. “He said, ‘Some are leftover school money, some I picked up from the streets.’ We were deeply touched. He had been saving for months—not for games or entertainment, but to use the laptop for studying. Such foresight and ambition for his age.”

Impressed by his determination, the shop decided to return all the coins to him, calling it a gift for his hard work. The boy repeatedly thanked the staff and bowed respectfully to the store manager, even kneeling on the floor in gratitude.

The store said the teen reminded them of the importance of making technology accessible, especially for students in remote areas of Sabah and Sarawak, and inspired them with his perseverance and dedication.
