KL Police Warn Public Against Posting 3R Content, Say Action Will Be Taken

Date:

Kuala Lumpur police have reminded the public to refrain from issuing statements, comments or content touching on race, religion and the royal institution (3R), warning that such actions could spark public anxiety and threaten social harmony.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the public is advised not to be directly or indirectly involved in any activities that may be linked to sensitive 3R issues. This includes writing, sharing or uploading opinions, remarks or content on social media platforms.

He explained that statements or materials capable of fuelling 3R sentiments pose a risk to public order and could negatively impact the socio-economic activities of the community. As such, individuals are urged to exercise restraint and responsibility when engaging online.

“Any attempt to exploit 3R issues will be investigated and firm action will be taken in accordance with existing laws,” he said in a statement posted on the Kuala Lumpur Police Facebook page today. The warning underscores the authorities’ stance against the misuse of sensitive issues.

Fadil added that the police remain committed to safeguarding harmony within Malaysia’s multi-racial society and ensuring that national peace and security are preserved at all times. He stressed that cooperation from all segments of society is crucial in maintaining a peaceful environment.

Earlier, Fadil announced that police would not allow the Anti-Illegal Worship House Movement (GARAH) rally, scheduled to take place in the capital tonight, to proceed due to public safety concerns and the risk of disturbances to public order.

The firm stance taken by the police has since triggered mixed reactions online, including comments that touched on sensitive issues across various social media platforms.
