Britney Spears Sells Music Catalogue In $200 Million Deal

Date:

Pop icon Britney Spears has reportedly sold the rights to her extensive music catalogue in a deal valued at around $200 million, according to US media reports.

The catalogue features global hits such as “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!…I Did It Again,” and the rights were reportedly acquired by music publisher Primary Wave. The company’s portfolio already includes legendary artists like Whitney Houston, Bob Marley and Prince. Owners of publishing rights earn revenue whenever their songs are streamed, sold, or used commercially.

The reported deal places Spears alongside other major artists who have monetised their music catalogues in recent years, including Justin Bieber, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Shakira and KISS. Industry analysts note that selling music rights has become an increasingly popular way for artists to convert their creative work into long-term financial assets.

Major record labels such as Sony, Universal and Warner have expanded into the music rights market, alongside specialist investors like Hipgnosis Songs Fund and Concord Music Publishing.

Spears, 44, who rose to fame in the late 1990s, has largely stepped back from performing and recording in recent years. Her decision to sell her catalogue follows the termination of a 13-year conservatorship in 2021, which she had described as abusive and overseen by her father.

While media reports estimate the deal’s value at $200 million, the exact financial terms were not disclosed in legal filings. The transaction further cements Spears’ legacy as one of pop music’s most influential figures.
