Two Melaka Police Officers Arrested Over RM2,000 Bribe in Drug Case

Date:

Two Melaka police officers have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of around RM2,000 in exchange for not taking action against an individual involved in a drug-related case.

The male officers, aged in their 30s and 40s, have been remanded for six days until 16 February to assist in the investigation.

The remand order was granted by Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani following an application by MACC at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Sources revealed that the suspects were detained around 5 pm yesterday while attending a biometric verification process at the MACC Melaka office.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the alleged offence occurred on 5 January at the Ayer Keroh Rest and Service Area, where both suspects are believed to have received the bribe in cash,” a source said.

In a related statement, Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
