Man Found Dead After Foraging Trip in Miri Forest, Police Investigate Sudden Death

A 44-year-old man who went missing while foraging in a forested area near Jalan Miri Bypass has been found dead, and police have classified the case as a sudden death pending further investigation.

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed in a statement that a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. The deceased, identified as Udil Lutan, had entered the forest on Friday (Aug 1) to collect vegetables and palm shoots.

Around 8.30pm that evening, Udil contacted a family member to pick him up, but by the time they arrived, he was nowhere to be found. A missing person report was lodged the next day, prompting a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

Udil was eventually located by the SAR team at 3.34pm on Sunday, but he was unconscious. A medical officer at the scene confirmed that he had died.

ACP Mohd Farhan urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Miri Central Police Station at 085-427093 or Investigating Officer Sgt Helmi Yusop at 013-5656646. He also reminded the public to avoid speculation out of respect for the victim’s family.
