Malaysia To Launch New National School Curriculum From 2027, Focus On Civic And Political Education

Date:

The Ministry of Education will gradually roll out a new national school curriculum starting next year, with the aim of keeping Malaysia’s education system dynamic and responsive to future needs, Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh said.

The updated curriculum will first be introduced for Year One and Form One students in 2027, before being extended to Year Two and Form Two students in 2028. Wong explained that curricula are implemented for a set period before undergoing review and updates to remain relevant. Certain subjects may see periodic evaluations as needed.

Wong also highlighted efforts to incorporate civic and political education into the curriculum. Elements of national and political education have been integrated into history and civic studies, allowing students to engage with democratic concepts early and understand political principles before being exposed to partisan politics. Collaboration with the Election Academy will provide students with practical learning experiences, including the voting process and responsibilities of voters.

Additionally, the ministry launched the MADANI Generation Character Building Programme this year, focusing on four key areas, including fostering patriotism and nurturing a positive sense of identity among students nationwide.
