The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained another Director-General of a Federal Department to assist in investigations into alleged abuse of power and false claims involving funds from the Malaysian Board of Land Surveyors (LJT).
Also arrested at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya was a division director. Both suspects had arrived around 10am yesterday to give statements to investigating officers.
According to sources, preliminary investigations suggest that the main suspect allegedly misused his position to obtain approval for LJT funds to be used for activities outside the board’s mandate, including personal interests.
“The investigation also involves allegations of submitting documents and claims containing false particulars amounting to several hundred thousand ringgit,” a source said today.
MACC will seek remand for both suspects at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court to allow further investigation, including tracing financial flows and identifying any additional offences.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing.
“MACC does not rule out the possibility of further arrests if additional evidence or testimonies emerge,” he said.
The investigation is being conducted under Sections 18 and 23 of the MACC Act 2009 and also involves offences under the Penal Code related to criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of property.
